Our Project Beginning

The "Dr Martin Luther King, Jr Gateway Initiative" was first founded in May of 2011. The project was created to commemorate the bridge over the Bishop Ford Expressway, between 99th and 100th streets of King Drive. It is the only bridge in Chicago that stretches 14 miles on Dr. Martin Luther King drive.

The goal of this project is to bring in more people and businesses as well as to show historical significance of the Rosemoor community itself. The bridge will honor Dr. Martin Luther King's work as a civil rights activist; because of this, the bridge itself stands for courage. The four corners surrounding the bridge represent peace, education, faith, and equality.

The ultimate goal of this project is for Rosemoor residents young and old, to have something to be proud of, as well as to unite the many communities that surround the Rosemoor community into one big family.

The RCA is striving to create a positive legacy, showcase the communities' rich historic heritage, and to attract families who are looking for a great community to live and engage in.
