"Clean & Green"
Each year in Spring RCA/MLK coincide with Chicago's City Wide Clean & Green. Of course with our two co-chairs Lola Davis and Janet Poole and a team of committed gardeners, the Community Gardens have really flourished. You can't help but witness the positive landscape changes as you enter the Rosemoor Community, as well as along side the Bishop Ford Expressway. This committee gives the community plenty of opportunities to show off their gardening skills by maintaining the garden program all year and the new "themed" signs with quotes from Dr. King are an incredible sight. Our local high schools can continue to gain many service learning hours each year by assisting this committee. Let's make sure we continue to encourage the team who unselfishly give their time to help with the garden. We look forward to your help in keeping the neighborhood green and especially clean all year long.
"Police and Firefighter Appreciation Day"
RCA understands the enormous task of meeting our goal to have a community free of drugs, gangs and other related criminal behavior and activities. Having the foresight to host an event that celebrates both our local Police and Firefighters annually sets RCA apart from many community organizations. 2022 marks the 11th year we have recognized our frontline workers. In the past years we have coupled our annual “Police and Firefighters Appreciation Day” with entertainment from youth organizations such as the Maggie Daley After-School Matters, Praize Productions, along with many of the surrounding organizations and have received a tremendous outpouring of support from the community. This annual event has created a space for youth to express their appreciation for the local police and firefighters without ridicule.
"Annual Fundraising Event"
Each year RCA chooses a "THEME" to celebrate this event. The funds raised during this dynamic event gives our members, partners, family, friends, constituents, and all those within and outside of the community the opportunity to support us in our role. Our campaign to engage this group in our common goal and objective of "a community whose residents are active change agents for the betterment of all" gets demonstrated by the many programs carried out during the calendar year. We look forward to this culmination with anticipation of bigger and better things yet to come.
"RCA Christmas Tree Give-A-Way"
With the aid of Ada S. Mckinley Community Services and their partnership with the Christmas Tree Ship Committee, RCA has a successful Christmas Tree Give-A-Way each year. Families throughout the Rosemoor community are chosen with the assistance of the churches who are always committed to helping to better it's congregation as well as the neighborhood: St. John de la Salle, Pullman Christian Reformed Church, Pullman Presbyterian Church, and Resurrection Church of Chicago. This could not be a success without the volunteers who make the trip to Navy Pier to retrieve the trees on behalf of RCA.
"Annual Children Christmas Party"
The children of the community certainly look forward to our Annual Children Christmas Party. In addition to the free food and fun, gifts are distributed to every child each year. Santa always arrives in time to take photos with the families to take home as a keepsake at no charge. RCA truly appreciates its members whose support helps to continue this tradition to the youth of the community. We truly thank 5th District Police Station along with several other surrounding community organizations who we have partnered with to keep this as an ongoing annual event.
"RCA Annual Adult Christmas Party"
Each year RCA closes out the year with a celebration in which the members of the Association and the members of the community have an opportunity to have fun and enjoy good food. There is always plenty of good music and good food. You may even be lucky enough to win a few prizes. We encourage all of our members to volunteer for at least one of the many events planned for the upcoming year and invite all to continue partnering with us to better our community.
